More and more often I see posts & articles where someone talks / writes about this topic. You get bombarded with headlines like: "Procrastination: When procrastination becomes pathological" or "The ONLY way to stop procrastination immediately", then they connect all of that to OCD, depression, ADHD and you feel like you're completely screwed. Why? Because you're not functioning or being as productive as society thinks you should be?
Definition:
PROCRASTINATION IS THE SCIENTIFIC TERM FOR PATHOLOGICAL POSTPONEMENT BEHAVIOR. IT'S CONSIDERED A SIGNIFICANT WORK-RELATED DISORDER, AFFECTING BOTH EVERYDAY PERSONAL ACTIVITIES AND ACADEMIC OR PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES. SOME RESEARCHERS DESCRIBE PROCRASTINATION AS A "FORM OF SELF-REGULATORY FAILURE CHARACTERIZED BY IRRATIONAL TASK POSTPONEMENT DESPITE POTENTIAL NEGATIVE OUTCOMES."
Isn't that wonderful? It's easy to feel guilty because you have the feeling that you're not getting anywhere and that you're not as productive as you should be. And then you get a scientific hammer put over you.
How do you feel after reading that? Even more fucked up than before? Yeahhhh isn't the internet great?
My view is this: If I read or hear something that feels light, joyful and inspiring, it's enriching for me and if something feels heavy and depressing, I'd rather leave it because then it doesn't correspond to my truth.
It's the same with procrastination. People talk about it everywhere and make you feel guilty. It always felt so heavy and depressing. So what is behind it?
THE ENERGY CALLED PROCRASTINATION IS EITHER AWARENESS OR AVOIDANCE
When you think you're not getting anywhere, you're procrastinating, take a moment and ask yourself:
"WHAT AM I AWARE OF HERE?", OR "WHAT AM I AVOIDING WITH THIS?".
If we infinite beings don't want to do something, then there is something behind it. We do not have a psychological problem or are depressed and listless! Yes, I know it feels as if it were real.
What I want to give you here is. Don't drive yourself crazy and don't judge yourself when you feel like you should, but you can't. Take a moment and center yourself to ask yourself some questions and just be in the moment with you and what's going on with you right now.
Maybe your conscious mind is telling you that it is not the time to do something or you want to avoid something (in the sense of not looking) in which you are not doing something. These can be very irrational reasons. Don't try to solve them with your head. Just be present with the energy that comes up and let it flow and dissolve.
